Module: Area 3D ()

Description:

For an introduction, see section Analysis.

This module calculates the area of the object boundary.

In the continuous case, let x(t), y(t) and z(t) be a parametric representation of the boundary curve X, its area is thus obtained as:

This formula has no obvious discrete equivalent, and is, therefore, mostly useless for our purposes. This module uses "intercepts" to take into account the exposed surface of the outer voxels. The idea being that in the "corners", the contribution of a voxel can vary from 1 to 3 depending on configuration.

Interpretation

This port specifies whether the input will be interpreted as a 3D volume or a stack of 2D images for processing.
